Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam. The entrance exam is the gateway for the admission to various B.Tech/B.E. programs offered by 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 CFTIs. From 2019, JEE Main will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), twice a year in computer-based mode only. Also, JEE Main is the qualifying test for JEE Advanced through which candidates can get admission to 23 IITs. JEE Main 2019 will be held for 2 papers where Paper-I is for B.Tech admissions and Paper-II for B.Arch admissions. States like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Nagaland & some other institutions use JEE Main ranks for admissions; however, admission criteria for the mentioned states will be notified by the concerned state authorities only.

The new changes in JEE Main 2019 allow for candidates to appear twice for the entrance exam in a given year. The better of the two scores will be used for the purpose of ranking as per the regulations laid by the authorities.

There are two papers in JEE (Main): Paper-1 for B. E. / B. Tech and Paper-2 for B.Arch / B. Planning. Paper-1 (B.E. / B. Tech) will be conducted in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only. Paper-1 contains 90 questions; out of which 30 questions from each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There will be four options for each question, out of which one answer is to be selected. Each correct answer carries 4 marks whereas 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. Maximum mark is 360. Duration of the test is 3 hrs. The medium of Question Paper shall be in English, Hindi and Gujarati. The option of question paper language should be exercised while filling up the Application Form and it cannot be changed at a later stage.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main-2019

Age Limit: NTA has removed the age limit. However, candidates need to pass 10+2 or equivalent examination in 2017, 2018 or should be appearing for the same in 2019 in irrespective of their birth date.

Educational Qualification:

Candidatesmust be qualified in Qualifying Examination: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject, Language and any other subject with the minimum of 75% marks or should be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards. For candidates belonging to SC/ST category minimum scores required is 65%.  

For JEE Main Paper-II- Candidates seeking admission to the architecture course must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination. No Diploma holder is eligible for the entrance exam.

Number of Attempts : The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

Exam Structure

JEE Main Paper I

(For B. Tech Course)

Mode of Exam:The Computer Based Test (CBT) - Online

Type of Questions: MCQ- Single option correct

Negative Marks: -1

Duration:3 hours

Note: The Computer Based Test (CBT) will be conducted in two shifts per day. Morning Shift - 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and Afternoon Shift - 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

JEE Main Paper II

(For B. Arch/ B. Planning Course)

Mode of Exam: Mathematics and Aptitude Test will be held as a computer-based test, while the drawing exam will be in offline (pen and paper based) mode

Type of Questions: Objective questions in Mathematics and Aptitude. While drawing test will assess drawing and sketching abilities.

Negative Marks: -1 (Mathematics and Aptitude)

Duration:3 hours

NOTE:The candidate can opt for question paper in English, Hindi and Gujarati language
